Site-Based Management Team Meeting, April 28 2009
The Coffin/Gerry Site Based Management Team met on April 28, 2009. The Parent Survey results are complete. Mr. Satterfield will be presenting the results to the School Committee at the next meeting. Next, Mr. Satterfield will use the results of the survey to create the School Improvement Plan.
More than half of the parents who took the survey believe that there are high standards for student behavior being set and high standards for academic achievement being clearly set. Teacher availability for parent conferencing scored well over 50% acceptability as did the Coffin/Gerry pride program for its fostering a sense of community and respect. Regarding Academics, over 50% of parents who took the survey agreed that their child is appropriately challenged in Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Music, Art and Physical Education. With regard to parent’s being able to keep informed of events in the school community through the various communication media, parents agreed strongly that the PTO ENews, PTO Meetings, PTO Website, Teacher Newsletters,
School Newsletters, Principal Email and AlertNow as well as the Coffin/Gerry Website furnished them with the ability to communicate with and know what is happening at the school. 91% of the parents who took part in the survey would like to receive communications from the school electronically. Between 15 % and 30% of parents in each grade level, Kindergarten through grade 3 participated in the survey. Many thanks go to the parents who helped in this effort.
The next Site Based Management Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 7:30 in Mr. Satterfield’s office.
