Parent Letter
June 2010
Dear Parents:
It is truly hard to believe that we only have two weeks of school left! Each year seems to move by quicker and quicker. At Coffin and Gerry, I have again been privileged to work with an exemplary staff, high achieving students, and dedicated parents. Thank you for a wonderful year.
These past few weeks have been filled with presentations and celebrations and there are more to come! The third grade did a fantastic job on the Patriots Show, and the second and third grade did and outstanding job at our annual Art Show. The art, by the way, is still visible in the hallways at Coffin. Music shows by the kindergarten and first grade were equally impressive. The Field day was this past Friday, and was again a great success due to the diligence of Mrs. McGrath, teachers, and parent volunteers!
Several classrooms at both Coffin and Gerry have had portfolio or authorís breakfasts, where the students show of their completed work over the course of the year. It is impressive to all of us (children included) to see the range and body of work that they have produced. Scrapbooks at home will be full to overflowing. Please note the new events coming up in the Upcoming Events part of this newsletter, and the communication going home from your childís teacher. Many classrooms will be having times to visit to view student work in the next few weeks, and you donít want to miss the opportunity to visit. It is so important to celebrate the small successes of your child as well as the large ones.
The Coffin and Gerry PTO has once again been extremely generous in their funding for the outdoor classroom project at Coffin and the purchasing of four smartboards for the first grade over at Gerry School. Their dedication and hard work make all of the new technology you see at Coffin and Gerry possible. Thank you.
Many of our teachers will be working hard this summer on various school-related projects. We have six teachers attending the Creative Classroom Institute, several more working on Professional Learning Communities in Boston, and a majority of classroom teachers and specialists continuing to develop and refine our Coffin-Gerry Pride work through a summer study group. They all will come back ready and refreshed in September for another amazing year!
The last day of school for students will be June 22, and will be a full day of school. Report cards will be handed out this day which will include placement of your child for the 2010-2011 school year. Note that teachers and specialists have worked extremely hard to develop these lists for next year and take many factors into account to create a balanced classroom. If you have any questions pertaining to placement, please do not contact the classroom teacher, but call the school office and we can set up an appointment time.
Finally, I wish you a happy and safe summer, and we look forward to seeing you again in September!
